Durham's Blackshear-Tvrdy Represents Lawrence University at National Philanthropy Day

APPLETON, WIS. (11/16/2012)(readMedia)-- Ariel Blackshear-Tvrdy, daughter of Pamela Blackshear, Durham, represented Lawrence University Nov. 15 at the annual National Philanthropy Day celebration in Appleton sponsored by the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

A junior linguistics major at Lawrence, Blackshear-Tvrdy is a 2010 graduate of Durham Academy.

Blackshear-Tvrdy was chosen as Lawrence's representative for her active participation in the Volunteers in Tutoring at Lawrence (VITAL) program, a free tutoring service for local students. During the 2011-12 academic year, 66 Lawrence students tutored 110 K-12 local students and contributed 670 volunteer hours through the VITAL program. Collectively Lawrence students volunteered 9,525 hours at 127 different community agencies in 2011-12.
