ADA, OK (10/24/2017) East Central University junior Kelsey Anderson took first place in the Student Research Poster Competition at the Second Annual Oka' Institute Sustainability Conference held recently in ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

Anderson, a chemistry major from Lancaster, Ohio, worked with Dr. Randall Maples, ECU assistant professor of chemistry, on the project and poster entitled "Nanoremediation - An Assessment Model of Iron Oxide Nanoparticle Mobility in Groundwater."

"We were interested in Nanoparticles and what they will do once they find their way into Oklahoma groundwater," said Maples. "I'm grateful to the Oka' Institute and their donors, the Chickasaw Nation, for the opportunity to do research and I'm very proud of Kelsey."

Anderson came to ECU in the Spring semester of 2017 from Murray State College in Tishomingo.

"I thank the Oka' Institute and Dr. Maples for getting us the research opportunity in the first place," Anderson said. "It was a great learning experience this past summer and into this fall."

Oka' means water in the Chickasaw and Choctaw languages.
