ADA, OK (10/09/2018) East Central University's Linscheid Library has opened a new Digital Humanities Lab on the second floor and it will be showcased with an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

The lab includes 13 Apple computers with media creation and editing software, a 3D printer and a large format printer. The computers can also be used to access online Native American language learning software for users that register through the Humanities Education Research Center (HERC) office. The lab will enable students and faculty to complete interdisciplinary research projects that combine technology and the humanities.

"One of the main priorities of the NASNTI HERITAGE program is to retain students to graduation by encouraging undergraduate research projects," according to Jinger McClure, director of the NASNTI HERITAGE grant program. "The digital humanities lab will provide enhanced cultural and language resources to engage the students in humanities education research opportunities."

The open house will feature some demonstrations on the computers.

"I'm excited to see what kinds of projects students and faculty come up with using the new equipment," says librarian Casey Lowry, who is overseeing day-to-day operations of the lab.

The lab is funded by a NASNTI HERITAGE grant (Native Americans Serving Non-Tribal Institutions Humanities Education and Research: Innovation and Technology in Advancing Guided Engagement). For more information, contact McClure at 580-559-5366 or jindmcc@ecok.edu.
