ENMU Fish and Wildlife Club Members Attend Wildlife Society Conference
PORTALES, NM (02/08/2018) Eastern New Mexico University students attended the New Mexico and Arizona Wildlife Society Conference (JAM) in Flagstaff, Arizona, with ENMU professor Dr. Ivana Mali, assistant professor of wildlife biology.
Nine undergraduates and one graduate student attended. Four students volunteered at the event totaling 17 volunteer hours. They won a total of six awards for the photo contest:
Wild mammals: Austin Wilson in 3rd place
Wild birds: Austin Wilson in 2nd place
Caught in act: Thanchira Suriyamongkol (MJ) in 1st place
Aquatic wildlife: Cameron Madsen in 3rd place; Korry Waldon in 1st place
Wild herps: Thanchira Suriyamongkol (MJ) in 3rd place
MJ received a biodiversity scholarship and a travel grant. Three students presented research: Kaniya Sandoval (undergraduate; poster), Korry Waldon (undergraduate; poster) and MJ (graduate; oral presentation). The undergraduates competed in a Quiz Bowl and got to the semi-finals.
Dr. Mali is now an official board member of the New Mexico Chapter of the Wildlife Society and was a moderator for the reptile session at the conference.
