Early Voting Starts in 1 Month! Supporters Rally for More Reform with Ranked Choice Voting

Early Voting allows New York City Residents to Vote Yes on 1 starting October 26th.

NEW YORK, NY (09/26/2019) (readMedia)-- Tomorrow marks one month until Early Voting will start in New York State for the very first time. Susan Lerner, Executive Director of CommonCause/NY, along with voting rights activists will rally in front of the Manhattan BOE to draw attention to the important changes in New York's voting practices, and call attention to Ranked Choice Voting, which will be question 1 on the November Ballot.

Ranked Choice Voting gives voters the option to rank their top five candidates in local New York City primary and special elections. If voters still want to vote for just one candidate, they can. A candidate who collects a majority of the vote, fifty percent plus one, wins. If there's no majority winner, then the last place candidate will be eliminated and the second choice votes for that candidate are redistributed. The process is repeated until there is a majority winner.

Early Voting gives voters nine days before election day to cast their ballot.
