Earthjustice and Sierra Club to Release Comprehensive Guide to Environmental Impacts of Cryptomining
New guidebook breaks down nebulous and opaque industry + false claims to sustainability
NEW YORK, NY (09/22/2022) (readMedia)-- Capping off NYC Climate Week, Earthjustice and the Sierra Club will publish a new guidebook, The Energy Bomb: How Proof-of-Work Cryptocurrency Mining Worsens the Climate Crisis and Harms Communities Now. The guidebook is one of the first comprehensive reports on the opaque and little-regulated cryptocurrency mining industry and its negative effects on the climate, local communities, and public health. It also provides a mythbusting section that tackles the industry's greenwashing talking points. The paper's co-authors will join with advocates from directly impacted communities and New York Assembly Member Anna Kelles – author of the country's first-ever cryptocurrency mining moratorium legislation – to present the guidebook and advocate for regulation.
