CSE Professor and East Brunswick Dr. Mary Chayko publishes latest book.

MORRISTOWN, NJ (01/25/2011)(readMedia)-- East Brunswick resident and best-selling author Dr. Mary Chayko, professor and chair of the sociology program at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., has added anthology authorship to her list of literary credits with the publication of her latest book, Pioneers of Public Sociology: 30 Years of Humanity and Society (Sloan Publishing), co-authored and edited with Dr. Corey Dolgon of Stonehill College.

The book contains 25 articles, many from the pages of the journal Humanity and Society, that are each partnered with a contemporary rejoinder or update, showing that the same issues are as relevant today as they were during the three decades of the journal reviewed by the authors. The authors dedicated their book to the founders of humanist sociology and to community and social movement leaders who are working to improve the living conditions of society's underclasses. Dr. Chayko also wrote and co-wrote several sections of the book.

Says Dr. Chayko, "I strongly believe that sociology is something people do and not just study. Sociology is a life skill, not a list of vocabulary words to be learned. It is a way of taking action to make people's lives better. This book demonstrates that." Dr. Chayko's last book, Portable Communities: The Social Dynamics of Online and Mobile Connectedness (SUNY Press), was ranked sixth on the top 20 best sellers list in the social sciences by the Library Journal in 2009. The book was also named Book-of-the-Year runner-up by the Association for Humanist Sociology at their annual meeting in New Orleans, November 15, 2009.
