Edible Eggs Don Decorations in State Fair Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/24/2011)(readMedia)-- Norwalk resident Marit Hovey placed first in the Kids' Edible Egg Decorating contest judged Saturday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Matthew Abbott of Ankeny took second, and Nick Johnson of West Des Moines placed third. Honorable mentions were awarded to Cassedy Clifton of Ankeny, Cameron Clifton of Ankeny, Connor Burr of Iowa City and Lucas Burr of Iowa City.

The contest was open to youth ages 5 to 11. Judging was based on creativity, use of materials, appearance and use of edible objects.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
