WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY (04/09/2014)(readMedia)-- New York Air National Guard member Edwin Mondezie, an Iraq War veteran , New York City Police Officer, and Queens resident, has been promoted to Chief Master Sergeant.

Mondezie, who joined the Air Force in 1991, currently serves as the senior enlisted advisor for the New York National Guard's Joint Task Force Empire Shield, the security force of Army and Air National Guard members who augment law enforcement security in the train stations and airports.

He also serves in the Logistics Readiness Squadron of the 106th Rescue Wing, which is based here at F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base.

Mondezie began his military service in the active Air Force in 1991. After serving in Korea and at McGuire Air Force Base he joined the 106th Rescue Wing in 1995. He has served in a number of positions with the 106th Rescue Wing, most recently as the Human Resources Advisor for the 106th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

Mondezie joined the New York City Police department in 1998 and served in the 6th Precinct. He was cited for the heroic arrest of an out-of-control bus passenger in 2002 and was assigned to the New York City Police Academy as an instructor in 2007.

In 2008 he took a leave of absence from the New York City Police Department to serve as a full-time National Guard member with Joint Task Force Empire Shield, first as a company first sergeant and now as the senior enlisted leader of the 200+ member force.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, and Air Force Longevity Service Award.

He lives in Queens and has three children: Patrice, Erykah, and Tishana.
