Elaine Bucknam to Present Research at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (02/20/2014)(readMedia)-- Elaine Bucknam, a Rockville, Md., native and sophomore at St. Mary's College of Maryland, has had a research paper accepted for presentation at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Kentucky in April. The conference is sponsored by the Council for Undergraduate Research. 

At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Bucknam is studying psychology and studio art with a minor in neuroscience. On campus, she is a member of the Nitze Scholars program. She also serves on one of the reaccreditation work groups and is co-director of the campus community farm.

Bucknam's research modified a human personality assessment inventory for use on macaque monkeys. She tested to see if observational data could be used on the social behavior of these animals to predict how animals would interact in new social groups or to new members of a group. Bucknam presented her research at the National Institutes of Health this summer and at a meeting for the Wahsington, D.C., chapter of the Society of Neuroscience.  

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, in ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
