Electeds and Advocates Celebrate Ruling on Crypto-Miner Greenidge Generation's Air Permit Denial

Climate-killing crypto-miner Greenidge Generation became a national story and test case for how states should handle the exploitative and extractive crypto-mining industry

DRESDEN, NY (09/28/2023) (readMedia)-- More than a year after the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation denied Greenidge Generation's air permit (a decision which the energy guzzling crypto-miner appealed), an Administrative Law Judge found again that Greenidge Generation's operations are inconsistent with the greenhouse gas emissions limits of New York's Climate Law (the CLCPA).

In a virtual press conference, elected officials and advocates will explain this victory. They will also discuss the state of crypto-mining in New York, and how this decision sets a precedent for the DEC to deny the air permit renewal for Fortistar/Digihost, another fracked gas-burning crypto-mining operation in North Tonawanda.
