Electricians Recruit Apprentices

HAUPPAUGE, NY (03/02/2010)(readMedia)-- The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, will conduct a recruitment from March 3, 2010 through February 16, 2011 for 40 Electrician apprentices, 5 Electrician (Residential) apprentices and 5 Electrical Maintenance Technician apprentices, Acting State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the JATC at 370 Motor Parkway, Hauppauge, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon, the first and third Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be completed on the premises.

The Committee requires that applicants:

* Must be at least 18 years old.

* Must have a high school diploma or hold a New York State approved high school equivalency diploma.

* Must have taken and passed Elementary Algebra, New York State Math I, or Freshman High School Regents Math.

* Must be a resident of Nassau or Suffolk County for at least one year prior to the application date.

* Must receive a qualifying score on the NJATC/AIR Aptitude Test administered by the JATC.

* Must have an interview with JATC.

* Must submit to and pass a drug test before acceptance into the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
