Electricians Recruit Apprentices
BINGHAMTON, NY (10/03/2008)(readMedia)-- The Electricians Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of Binghamton, Local 325, will conduct recruitment from October 6, 2008 through September 14, 2009 for five apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.
Applications can be obtained in person only at the local, 24 Emma St., Binghamton, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the first working Monday of each month during the recruitment period. Applications must be completed on the premises.
The committee requires that applicants:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school or general equivalency diploma, with a passing grade in algebra, math I, or first-year high school Regents math -- transcript required after acceptance for the program.
- Have lived within the local's geographic jurisdiction for at least six months - all of Broome County, and parts of Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Tioga Counties.
- Achieve a qualifying score (4 out of 9) on the electrical industry's aptitude test.
- Take a physical examination by a physician selected by the committee at the committee's expense - after acceptance for the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
