Elizabeth Shupe of Leonardtown, Md., is recipient of the Josette Marie Gandara Memorial Award at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (12/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Elizabeth Shupe of Leonardtown, Maryland, is the recipient of the Josette Marie Gandara Memorial Award at St. Mary's College of Maryland. The scholarship was established by Janet and Raul Gandara in memory of their daughter, Josie, and benefits female graduates of Chopticon High School with financial need.

Shupe, Class of 2014, is majoring in biology with a minor in neuroscience. She is involved in the fencing club on campus and is considering a career in medicine or education.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
