SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Elizabeth Walsh of Peabody was recently named a recipient of the Grand Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is a Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Walsh was one of 15 outstanding seniors to receive the award during the University's Homecoming Weekend.

Walsh is a Communication major, and a member of the Mortar Board, Lambda Pi Eta, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies. She is currently serving her second term as Student Senate President. Walsh is in her third year as a Peer Advisor and recently was included into the organization's Steering Committee. She has also served as Sophomore Class President, member of the All College Committee for Student Affairs, delegate to the National Association of Campus Activities Northeast Conference, and supervisor at the Western New England University Polling Institute.
