Elizabethtown College Theatre performs Oscar Wilde play Feb. 12 through 22

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (01/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Oscar Wilde is known for his portrayal of the human condition in Victorian times, and none of his works is more clever than the outlandish "The Importance of Being Earnest," about two men who have fallen for two ladies who have their hearts set on marrying a man named Ernest.

In order to pursue the romance, Dapper Jack Worthing and Algernon, his compatriot in cavorting, concoct an elaborate deception that leads to an even more unusual surprise when the formidable Lady Bracknell starts sleuthing about for the far-fetched truth.

"The Importance of Being Earnest" opens at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the College's Tempest Theatre. The show continues at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13; Saturday, Feb. 14; Thursday, Feb. 19; and Friday, Feb. 20. A performance also is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.

The box office is open on weekday afternoons during the two weeks of the play's production, as well as one hour prior to curtain.
