ELMIRA, NY (11/05/2018) The Elmira College men's and women's basketball teams are gearing up for another exciting installment of EC's annual Hoops Hysteria event, sponsored by the Student Association Finance Board. This year's event will take place on Wednesday, November 7, at 9:15 p.m. with the doors to Speidel Gymnasium opening for students at 9:00 p.m. The first 300 students in attendance will be given a free Hoops Hysteria t-shirt and each student will be given five free raffle tickets for a number of prizes that will be given out throughout the night.

As in previous years, there will be several great prizes distributed throughout the night. Last year's winners received gift cards and HD flat screen televisions. New to this year's array of prizes will be the opportunity for an Elmira College student to win free tuition. Two lucky EC students will be randomly selected to participate in a 24-second four-shot contest in which the student will have to make a layup, a free throw, a 3-point shot and a shot from half-court within the 24-second window to secure free tuition.

The free tuition shot will be one of several fun and exciting events throughout the night, as fans get their first glimpse of the Soaring Eagle men's and women's basketball teams. The men will perform a brief dunking exhibition, before combining with the women's team for a Shooting Challenge. There will also be an Athletics Team Shootout, where a representative from each athletic team will participate to win a team prize. Contestants from the crowd will then be selected to take part in a Relay Race. The EC Dance Line and Cheerleading team will also be showcased at Hoops Hysteria, with the night being capped off by a performance from the EC cheerleaders.

For the fourth year in a row Hoops Hysteria will involve a canned food drive. Students are encouraged to bring canned goods to Wednesday's event, and in return for every can donated, students will receive additional raffle tickets. There's not cap on canned goods, so the more students bring, the better their chances will be at winning one of the several phenomenal prizes throughout the night.
