Emmali Montgomery Receives Gail Thomson/Penn Manor Scholarship

MILLERSVILLE, PA (06/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Emmali Montgomery, Conestoga, Pa., has been selected to receive the Gail Thompson/Penn Manor Scholarship. Montgomery will graduate from Penn Manor High School and will attend Millersville University of Pennsylvania this fall to study computer science.

The Gail Thomson/Penn Manor Scholarship is for a student who is graduating from Penn Manor High School and enrolling at Millersville University as a first-time, full-time freshman. The endowed scholarship is in honor of Gail Thomson's years of service as a teacher in the Penn Manor School District. The endowment was established by her husband, Dr. Edward Thomson, retired associate vice president of student affairs emeritus at Millersville University. The award is valued this year at $344.

Montgomery pursued a solid college preparatory curriculum, including several courses studied at an honors or Advanced Placement level. She was on the Gold Honor Roll throughout high school and a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) in grades 11 and 12 in addition to being a two year member of the Tri-M, a music honorary society. As part of the NHS service requirement, she volunteered to tutor peers in math, ushered for the school play and served others at the Water Street Rescue Mission. She participated in 10th through 11th grades in the school choral group and orchestra and played the flute – first chair. She was active in Girl Scouting through 10th grade, earning her Silver Award. Montgomery was a member of the Art Club and won academic awards for creative writing, US history and chemistry.
