Evan Smith Wins Political Science Prize at UVM

Evan G. Smith received the Warren R. and Mildred Austin Prize for International Peace and Security at the University of Vermont this semester.

Warren R. Austin (UVM class of 1899) won a special election to the U.S. Senate from Vermont in 1931 and was subsequently re-elected to two full terms. He resigned his seat in August 1946 when he was appointed by President Truman as the second United States Ambassador to the United Nations, serving in that capacity from 1946 to 1953. This prize, established by the generous bequest of Warren and Mildred Austin, is given to the graduating senior who excels in the study of international relations, as chosen by the international relations faculty of the political science department.
