Evenden Tower Declared Safe and Clear
DELHI, NY (03/12/2013)(readMedia)-- Law enforcement officials have ruled that a bomb threat at SUNY Delhi this morning was a hoax.
Evenden Tower was declared safe and clear at approximately 1:15 p.m. following a sweep of the building by the State Police canine unit. Officials report they found nothing unusual in the building. Classes in Evenden Tower remain canceled for today and will resume as scheduled on Wednesday, March 13, at 7:35 a.m.
The building was evacuated this morning after SUNY Delhi University Police and Delaware County 911 received calls indicating that a bomb had been placed in Evenden Tower on the SUNY Delhi campus and was set to explode around 10 a.m. SUNY Delhi officials immediately instituted its Emergency Management Plan. Students, faculty and staff were also notified of the evacuation via NY Alert, campus email and voice mail, and the college's public address system. Email was also utilized to notify and update parents of the threat and steps that the college was taking. University Police assisted in evacuating students and faculty from Evenden Tower and conducted an initial sweep of the building.
Officials from Delhi Village Police, Delaware County Sheriff's Department, Delaware County Emergency Management Office, Delhi Fire Department and New York State Police assisted with the investigation.
