Event Notice: BVU Center for Diversity and Inclusion celebrates Women's History Month
STORM LAKE, IA (03/26/2019) (readMedia)-- Three special events organized by officials with Buena Vista University's new Center of Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) will help round out Women's History Month in March.
The first is a "couch conversation event," entitled "Women and Faith." The session takes place at 8 p.m. Thursday in the skybox area on the top floor between Pierce and White residence halls on campus. This event, a collaboration between CDI, the Multicultural Engagement Leadership Team (MELT), and Women's Bible Study is open to anyone. Light refreshments will be served as participants engage in a conversation about women and faiths of all kinds.
MELT members Abigail Ross, Christina Jackson, and Victoria Hodge will facilitate, according to Ebony King, director of multicultural engagement at BVU.
BVU's Black Student Union hosts a "Ladies Night" party at 10 p.m. Saturday in The Underground, in the lower level of Smith Hall. Admission is a non-perishable food/drink item, unused health and hygiene products, unused school supplies, and any old phones. Donated items will be given to officials with the Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA).
"There will be music and dancing and all women present will get a small gift item as a token of our appreciation," King says.
Additionally, through Friday this week, King will display a presentation outside the CDI that highlights female student leaders at BVU. These students were nominated by the Student Success staff. King and her staff will present photos of 30 students, with information on their hometowns, areas of study at BVU, and a comment about what empowers each young leader.
