Everett Native Daniel Baah Honored by MIAC as Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

SAINT PAUL, MN (02/24/2012)(readMedia)-- Bethel University senior Daniel Baah of Everett, Wash., was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for his performance the week of January 23-30.

The Bethel men's basketball team has been one of the hottest teams in the MIAC as of late, with four-straight wins over the past two weeks. Daniel Baah was superb in wins over Augsburg and Macalester, leading the Royals in scoring in both games while averaging 21.5 points, three rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.

Baah started his big week by leading Bethel to a decisive 72-55 win over Augsburg on Wednesday to give the Royals their third-straight win over potential MIAC Playoff teams. Baah's stat line featured 21 points, four steals, one blocked shot and one rebound while shooting 9-for-16 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line. He was just as good in Saturday's 85-65 win over Macalester with 22 points, five boards, two assists and one steal while shooting 6-for-10 form the floor and a near-perfect 9-for-10 from the line. For the week, Baah shot .577 from the floor and an outstanding .917 from the charity stripe. This season, Baah is averaging 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting .413 from the floor and .771 on free throws.

The MIAC honor gives the Royal's men's basketball squad its second consecutive player of the week award - an incredibly rare feat. In fact, it is only the second time in more than five seasons that BU has won two awards in the same year, let alone in back-to-back weeks.
