Expert on Millennials and Careers to Speak at Champlain College's Sophomore Symposium

Lindsey Pollak, a leading expert on training, managing and marketing to the Millennial generation, will be the keynote speaker at Champlain College's annual Sophomore Symposium on Sept. 21.

BURLINGTON, VT (09/01/2014)(readMedia)-- Lindsey Pollak, a leading expert on training, managing and marketing to the Millennial generation, will be the keynote speaker at Champlain College's annual Sophomore Symposium on Sept. 21.

Each fall, all second-year students at Champlain participate in the symposium designed to kick off the College's Life Experience & Action Dimension (LEAD) program's Lifelong Career Management Program. "The symposium helps guide students' career paths by recognizing their passions, connecting them with expert advice, and encouraging them to think about their career aspirations," said Abigail Mendenhall, assistant director of LEAD.

Pollak is a best-selling author and consultant who helps organizations meet today's generational workplace challenges and develop tomorrow's global leaders. Her advice and opinion columns have appeared in media outlets such as the "Today" show, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, FOX Business, Glamour, CNN and NPR.

She also appears on several lists of "Best People to Follow on Twitter," including Mashable's list of top non-fiction authors. Forbes named her blog one of the "Top 100 Websites for Your Career."

"The purpose of my campus speaking programs is to supplement the College's career service offerings," said Pollak. "Students will leave the session, which combines tips for successful networking, leveraging social media and utilizing LinkedIn to build your personal online brand, with increased confidence and steps to keep them on track from college to career."

According to Pollak, her presentation at Champlain College will focus on "How to Stand Out from the Crowd." In the interactive, action-oriented program, Pollak will share secrets she's learned from recruiters, successful professionals and other experts to provide students with cutting-edge advice needed to secure jobs and build careers in the 21st century workplace. The keynote speech by Pollak will be followed by an afternoon of breakout workshops with faculty, community members and business leaders designed to help students explore how others in their field have turned their passion into a career.

Pollak, who wrote Getting from College to Career: Your Essential Guide to Succeeding in the Real World, has a new book coming out on Sept. 16. Becoming the Boss: New Rules for the Next Generation of Leaders, focuses on leadership strategies for Millennials. She will be distributing 300 copies of her new book to students during the Sophomore Symposium.

Pollak also serves as an official ambassador for LinkedIn, spokesperson for The Hartford's "My Tomorrow" campaign and chair of the Cosmopolitan magazine Millennial Advisory Board.

Pollak's clients include more than 150 corporations, conferences and universities, including Barclays, Citi, GE, IBM, Liz Claiborne, Merrill Lynch, PwC, Ralph Lauren, Time Inc., Yale, Harvard, Princeton and MIT.

In her charitable work, Pollak serves as chairwoman of the board of She's the First, a nonprofit organization that sponsors girls' education in developing countries so they can be first in their families to graduate from high school.
