Five Scholarships Available at GCC Warsaw Event

BATAVIA, NY (01/20/2016)(readMedia)-- Warsaw, NY- If you want to apply for college financial aid, but don't know where to begin, come to GCC Warsaw on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 4 - 8 p.m. You'll receive free expert help filling out the online FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms. In addition, five participants will receive a $500 scholarship. The College Goal NY event is being organized by Genesee Community College at the Warsaw Campus Center.

In order to receive all of the federal aid to which a student is entitled, the student must complete the FAFSA form. Financial aid counselors from GCC will be on hand to help high school seniors and adults complete the forms online. Participants are asked to bring essential information, including social security numbers, birth dates, driver's licenses and most recent income tax returns. College Goal NY offers a checklist of what to bring here: http://collegegoalny.org/get-started/how-to-prepare.

"Completing the FAFSA form online for the first time can be a bit complicated, and we are here to help students and their families through this very critical first step of the college experience," Patty Chaya, associate dean of the Warsaw and Lima Campus Centers said. "In addition to federal and state funds, GCC has many scholarship opportunities available – which we are happy to help students understand and apply for."

Those interested can pre-register online at www.collegegoalny.org. While GCC is hosting the event, students pursuing their education at other colleges are welcome to attend. The GCC Warsaw Campus Center is located adjacent to the Wyoming County YMCA at 115 Linwood Avenue in Warsaw. For more information, call the friendly staff at the Warsaw Campus Center (585) 786-3010.
