46th Annual Executive Conference in Bolton Landing

ALBANY, NY (06/18/2007)(readMedia)-- The New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA) today announced that FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate has been awarded the seventh annual Carol M. Reilly Award.

The award, which honors the memory of the late wife of NYSBA President Joseph A. Reilly who died of cancer in 2000, is presented to a woman who encompasses general excellence, leadership and professionalism. Tate will be recognized on Tuesday, June 26th during NYSBA’s 46th Annual Executive Conference at The Sagamore Resort Hotel in Bolton Landing.

“Each year our selection committee chooses a woman for this award who exemplifies many of Carol’s wonderful attributes,” said NYSBA President Joseph A. Reilly, noting that previous winners include NYS Lieutenant Governor Mary Donohue, 2002 Olympic gold medal winning figure skater Sarah Hughes and Joanna Bull, founder, Gilda’s Club Worldwide.

“Deborah fits all of this award’s parameters,” Reilly continued. “At the FCC she has been active in encouraging more women and people of color to hold media ownership roles. Her vision, dedication, perseverance, commitment and leadership are qualities that women across this state admire.”

Before joining the FCC, Commissioner Tate was appointed by former Governor Don Sundquist to serve a six-year term as a director of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority (TRA), where she served as chairman from 2003-2004. In that position, she also had been appointed to the Federal-State Joint Board on Advanced Telecommunications Services. As a member of the national utilities association (NARUC), she was chairman of the Washington Action Committee, and was on both the Consumer Affairs and Gas Committees.

Prior to her service at the TRA, the Murfreesboro, TN resident served as an attorney and senior policy advisor to former Governor Lamar Alexander and former Governor Don Sundquist. She specifically served as a senior mental health and juvenile justice policy advisor, and was instrumental in the creation and implementation of a statewide plan establishing a Mental Health Revision Commission culminating in the passage of an entire new mental health law for Tennessee.

Tate, who has three children and resides in Nashville, earned her B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Tennessee.
