OSWEGO, NY (10/31/2011)(readMedia)-- Charles Stanek of Diamond Point, a 1965 graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego and longtime resident of the Fairport area, will be honored for his achievements in men's basketball, soccer and baseball.
Stanek will be inducted into the Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, Nov. 12, in the Hewitt Union Ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus. The Oswego Alumni Association will sponsor a 12:30 p.m. reception and 1 p.m. luncheon -- reservation deadline is Nov. 4 -- and the college will recognize the inductees at a 7 p.m. men's ice hockey game in the Campus Center arena.
Stanek won Athlete of the Year in 1964 and was Athlete of the Year runner-up in 1963. He participated in the SUNY Athletic Conference basketball championship in 1961-62 to 1963-64. Stanek was named to the All-SUNYAC baseball team in 1964. He was a co-captain of Oswego varsity soccer in 1963 and 1964, and co-captain of Oswego varsity baseball in 1964. He received the Block "O" Award in 1964.
Stanek has been very active in youth sports, establishing the Fairport Soccer Club and coaching Fairport boys soccer, Fairport girls soccer and youth basketball in Perinton. He served as a board member for the Rochester Area Youth Soccer League from 1980 to 1986. He was awarded the Outstanding Service Award for the Rochester Area Youth Soccer League in 1984.
Stanek served as a manager at Xerox for 36 years, accumulating nine professional awards during his time there.
