Families, Friends and Alumni Invited to Join GCC Homecoming Activities

Healthy, Fun Events Planned for the Whole Family

BATAVIA, NY (09/03/2014)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College encourages the whole family to take a walk down "Alumni Road" at the two-day Homecoming celebration on September 26-27, 2014 at the Batavia Campus. This year's theme pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Beatles arrival in the U.S. through GCC's fun interpretation with its own "Fab Four" walking across Alumni (Abbey) Road, and two lively events perfect for family and friends. The annual women's and men's Alumni Soccer game scheduled on Friday will be joined by the new family-friendly 5K Run/Walk on Saturday.

The College invites men and women soccer team alumni to "Get Back" to campus for the annual Alumni Soccer Game on Friday, September 26. Regardless of the years they played or graduation, GCC soccer team members are asked to dig out their shin guards and cleats "get back to where you once belong!" The women's alumni game kicks off at 6 p.m. with the men's game following at 7:45. All games will be played in the stadium on the new soccer 'pitch.' Family and friends are encouraged to cheer the teams from the stands. All players who register in advance online will receive a free t-shirt. Go to: www.genesee.edu/gcc/alumnisoccer.

The next morning on Saturday, September 27, Homecoming planners are excited about the first "Fun" Raising Our Future 5K Run and Walk, a fun and healthy outing designed for family and friends to "Come Together." Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the run / walk starting promptly at 10 a.m. The runner-friendly, cross-country styled course winds its way around the Batavia campus. Serious athletes will want to test their times on this course, while young families with strollers, toddlers and even friendly dogs on leashes can also join the event! Distance markers along the route will feature prize giveaways for children, and medals and awards will be handed out for top finishers in each age group. The Razzle Dazzle Team Award goes to the most creative costumes and the High-Top High Rollers Award goes to the Most Team and Individual Pledges secured. Advance online registration is just $20 and includes a t-shirt. Go to: www.gccfoundation.kintera.org/5K

Family fun continues post-race in the Forum with special activities for the kids including a bounce house, hands-on arts and crafts and face painting.
