Farheen Rasheed of Great Mills Awarded Amanda Leigh Gerek Endowed Scholarship
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (12/12/2013)(readMedia)-- Farheen Rasheed, a Great Mills, Md. native and junior at St. Mary's College of Maryland, was recently awarded the Leigh Gerek Endowed Scholarship. Established in 1995, the scholarship benefits graduates from Great Mills High School who have financial need.
At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Rasheed is studying biology. She plans to pursue medical school. "Science really fascinates me," says Rasheed. "I am intrigued by the human body and how it functions, which is why I'm interested in medicine."
Outside of the classroom, Rasheed is involved in the Future Leaders of the World (FLOW) mentoring program.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
