EASTON, MA (09/01/2011)(readMedia)-- Farmington native Cortney Logan delivered the student address at Stonehill College's Academic Convocation ceremony on Tuesday, August 30. Held on the school's Easton, Massachusetts campus, Convocation marks the start of the new academic year.
In her speech, Logan, on behalf of the senior class, welcomed the Class of 2015 to Stonehill and introduced Math Professor Norah Esty as this year's keynote speaker.
"None of our experiences will be the same and our Stonehill journeys will lead us down any number of different paths," Logan told the first-year students.
"Perhaps we will meet as stand partners in the chamber orchestra where we will rediscover a love for music, on a HOPE trip to help remove a bit of injustice from the world, or in the dining hall waiting in line at Ben and Jerry's night.
"There are no certainties when you are a Stonehill student except that the student you enter as a freshman will never be as confident or enthusiastic as the young adult you are when it is time to leave."
A Mathematics major, Logan spoke of her love for math and her experiences as a teaching assistant, working closely with Esty.
"Whether we are going over a complicated proof or talking about life, I always leave Professor Esty's office knowing I have someone at Stonehill who cares about my future, not only as a student, but also as a person."
Logan spent the summer as a math researcher at Central Michigan University. As she begins her final year at Stonehill, she is already in the process of studying for the GREs to apply to grad school and potentially pursue a PhD in Mathematics.
