Field of Deer Memorial Reception Supports Those Left Behind

STAUNTON, VA (12/06/2011)(readMedia)-- This is an invitation to join the Staunton Parks and Recreation Department and the Celebration of Holiday Lights Committee for light refreshments and holiday entertainment in a supportive atmosphere. Join us at the Gypsy Hill Park Pool as we honor loved ones with the deer memorial and the spoken word. Attendees will have the opportunity to verbally honor the person represented by their deer with a 2 minute-limited talk via sound system. We will not however, permit decorating of the deer or entry into the display area due to safety concerns. We expect this reception will be thoughtful, inspiring and cathartic.

The Field of Deer Memorial Reception will be held on December 17th @ Gypsy Hill Park Pool from 4-6pm. This first time event will provide a platform for loved ones to express their memories and feelings about those they have identified to honor or memorialize with deer. The holidays tend to revive sentimental memories and longings and our department sees this event as a means of providing a community support group to families and individuals who express themselves via public spoken word at the event.

Families and individuals who have placed a deer in memory or in honor of loved one or have purchased a plaque will receive an official invitation in the mail.
