ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (02/24/2012)(readMedia)-- Last fall Elizabethtown College shared in the reading of Rebecca Skloot's "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," about a poor black woman whose cancer cells -- taken without her knowledge at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1951 -- became one of the most important medical tools of our cent

With this shared read as inspiration, the College hosted a film series that, in its own way, acknowledges Henrietta's life and legacy.

"The Constant Gardener," the final film in the series, explores the pharmaceutical industry in developing countries. Shown at 7 p.m. Monday, March 19, in Gibble Auditorium, the film is smart, politically complex, cinematically adventurous, heartbreaking and a genuine thriller. About a mild diplomat and the treachery uncovered by his activist wife (the dirty doings of a pharmaceutical company in Kenya), the 2005 film starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz, expertly explores destructive real-world issues.

A panel discussion following the film features Elizabethtown College professors Cristina Ciocirlan, Business; Debbie Waltermire, Occupational Therapy; and Michele Kozimor-King and Rita Shah, Sociology, who will address the issues brought forth in the film. Admission is free.
