First Time Fair Food Contest Entrants Battle For Top Honors

DES MOINES, IA (08/14/2018) (readMedia)-- Pamela Lang of Johnston won first place and a $50 cash award in the Beginner's Contest judged Saturday, August 11, at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Marcia Baumhover of Des Moines and Jennifer Simonton of Waukee tied for second place. Erin Anderson of Des Moines claimed third place.

This competition was limited to adults entering a Food Department contest for the first time.

Entries were judged on taste, presentation and originality.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
