Flagler College Science Students Selected for Research Program

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (04/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Flagler College students Kassandra Ferguson and Daphne Pariser have been to chosen to participate in the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates Program, a summer research program designed to provide motivated undergraduates the opportunity to conduct hands-on scientific research.

Ferguson, a Psychology major and Environmental Science minor, will spend 11 weeks conducting scientific research into the Evolution of the Nervous System at the University of Florida's Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience. This research opportunity will bring Ferguson closer to her goal of attending graduate school and investigating the neurogenetics involved in psychological and developmental disorders.

Pariser, also a Psychology major and Environmental Science minor, will be spending 10 weeks conducting scientific research into the neuroscience of emotion, learning, and memory at the Center for Neural Science at New York University. Pariser intends to pursue graduate studies in psychobiology with a research focus on the neurology of post-traumatic stress disorder.

The National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates Program provides free housing, reimbursement for travel and a generous stipend to all chosen participants.
