Flagler College professor presents at collegiate mathematics conference

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (04/08/2014)(readMedia)-- Flagler College Associate Professor Carrie Grant recently presented her work on statistics education at the International Conference for Technology in Collegiate Mathematics in San Antonio.

Grant's lecture, "StatCrunch Groups: Embedding Activities for Exploration and Assessment Abstract," focused on developing new ways to incorporate active learning in the classroom by involving the students in the learning process.

"Engaging students in the learning process is essential to deep conceptual understanding of statistical topics," said Grant, who uses online interactive elements in her classroom. "These lessons have proven to be essential to student understanding and involvement. This format ... forces the student to truly participate in the online community and receive an enriched educational experience."

The International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics (ICTCM) was held March 20-23 and is an annual conference sponsored by Pearson Addison-Wesley and Pearson Prentice Hall publishers.
