ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (03/19/2014)(readMedia)-- Flagler College students Kayla Murphy and Brian Flintoft have been chosen to attend the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International Conference in San Antonio March 23-25.

Murphy and Flintoft were awarded $1000 scholarships for travel expenses provided by the AFP Foundation.

"Winning this scholarship is very humbling to me," said Murphy, a senior and vice president of the Flagler chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. "I am looking forward to networking with different professionals in the industry and learning different techniques for fundraising."

Flintoft, a junior at Flagler, was shocked and honored by the scholarship.

"I normally don't win many awards or get selected for things so it was incredibly special," said Flintoft, who serves as the secretary of Flagler's AFP. "I am looking forward to meeting new people, making connections from around the world, and hearing the many lectures at the conference."

The three-day conference will feature more than 1,000 fundraising professionals including Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer.

The AFP represents 30,000 members in 230 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs. The association fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession.
