ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (10/06/2010)(readMedia)-- Flagler College's Community Lecture Series continues on Oct. 12 with a program given by John D. Young, assistant professor in the Liberal Studies Department. Young's talk will be, "Circumscribed by her Sex: Women and Religion in the High Middle Ages."

Young's research interests lie in the cultural and religious history of the Middle Ages, with particular emphasis on Jewish-Christian relations, ecclesiastical politics and religious communities.

Young graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in History from Brigham Young University, and holds graduate degrees from the University of Oxford and the University of Notre Dame. He is a Ph.D. candidate in Medieval Studies at the University of Notre Dame, where his doctoral dissertation focuses on the monasteries of Germany as a locus point for both Jewish-Christian interaction and the transmission of ideas about Jews.

The Flagler College Community Lecture Series was established in 2007 to expose the St. Augustine community to select topics from local experts and Flagler faculty. Tickets are $5 per person for a single lecture, or $15 for the series. Active military personnel may attend at no charge. Lectures begin at 10 a.m. in the Flagler Room at Flagler College, 74 King St. Reservations are required as space is limited.
