Forest Park resident Janiene Garcia receives Dominican's Outstanding Service Leadership Award
RIVER FOREST, IL (05/03/2011)(readMedia)-- Janiene Garcia, a resident of Forest Park, recently received the Outstanding Service Leadership Award from Dominican University for her extraordinary service on campus and in the larger community.
Garcia worked with Nuestros Pequenos-Ecuador to create an assessment of seven Ecuadorean communities in greatest need. She also spent a year working with children who had experienced abuse and/or neglect at Mi Casa in Mexico. She has an outstanding record of local and national service with PADS, a west suburban program serving the homeless; Project Lazarus, an organization that provides assisted living to people with AIDS; and AmeriCorps. Last fall she presented at Dominican's Caritas et Veritas Symposium and organized student participation in non-violence training and the annual protest of the School of the Americas in Ft. Benning, GA. She now serves as a graduate assistant with Dominican University's Graduate School of Social Work.
