NORTHFIELD, MN (11/01/2012)(readMedia)-- Carleton College sophomore Gina Kabasakalis (Alameda, Calif./College Prep) earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive year by finishing tied for fourth place at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships on Oct. 6-8 at Bunker Hills Golf Club.
Kabasakalis posted rounds of 82-73-85 to finish at 240 for the 54-hole event. Her second-round, one-over par 73 was a career low and the second-best round in school history. Kabasakalis ended the fall season with an 80.73 stroke average, which is second-best on the squad and fifth-best in the conference. She recorded a pair of top-five finishes in five tournaments this fall and was inside the top 10 at every event this fall.
The Knights finished second as a team at the MIAC Championships, ending with a school-record 977 for the 54-hole event. The total shattered the old record, set at last year's conference tournament, by 25 shots. It marked Carleton's best finish ever at the MIAC Championships. Carleton's team average of 329.5 is on pace to set a new school record and is the third lowest in the MIAC.
Carleton has been nationally ranked all season, sitting at 11th in the Golf World/Women's College Golf Association (WCGA) women's coaches poll for most of the season until moving down to 21st in the new poll, released today. The Knights have completed their fall season and are now off from competition until the spring season, which starts in March.
Ranked among the nation's top liberal arts institutions, Carleton is a private, co-educational college of 1,900 students located 40 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul. High academic standards, an excellent teaching faculty and a diverse student body contribute to Carleton's outstanding reputation.
