Four from Kutztown University football named 2023 CSC Academic All-District

Kutztown University football placed four players on the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District teams, the organization recently announced.

Trey Bernstein (York, Pa./William Penn), Jalen DeVose (Lansdale, Pa./La Salle College H.S.), Nick Lovenguth (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) and Tyler Whary (Hereford, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) were the Golden Bears' representatives. The CSC Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The program recognizes honorees in four divisions --NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

In order to be nominated for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Graduate students must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA as an undergraduate and grad student unless they are in their first semester of grad school. Athletically, student-athletes must have competed in 90% of their institution's games or started at least 66% of their team's games.

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot based on academic and athletic merit by an organization-appointed committee. Whary, the 2023 PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year, advanced to the Academic All-America ballot from Kutztown. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced Jan. 23, 2024.
