Franklin Kidd, III, Receives Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame Award from McDaniel College

WESTMINSTER, MD (10/25/2013)(readMedia)-- Franklin Kidd, III, of Boston, Mass., is a recipient of the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award from McDaniel College. He is a 1965 alumnus of the college.

Presented annually during McDaniel's Homecoming, the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award is presented to a graduate and former athlete who has performed outstandingly as an undergraduate athlete and who has contributed to society since leaving the college.

As a member of the Green Terror football team, Kidd competed on the Mason Dixon (1961, 1962 and 1963) and Middle Atlantic Conference (1962 and 1963) championship football teams and was selected for several awards in 1964, including Best Blocking Lineman, first Team All Mason Dixon Conference, All Maryland college football team, and Mason Dixon Conference Most Valuable Player.

He was co-captain of the track team (1964, 1965), lettering all four years. He still has a fourth place ranking on the McDaniel College All Time Top Ten List in javelin and is ranked eighth on the All Time Top Ten List for 110-meter high hurdles.

A ROTC Cadet Commander, Kidd was commissioned to the U.S. Army upon graduation, where he was a starting member of the undefeated (9-0) U.S. Army 2nd Division football team in Korea in 1966. He was unanimously voted to the 1st Team Stars & Stripes All 8th Army All Star football team, leading the league in total touchdown receptions and receiving yards. He also coached championship Army boxing and baseball teams. In 1968, Kidd signed a professional football contract with the Washington Redskins as a tight end, but was unable to compete due to military obligations.

Kidd, who is now retired after 30 years as a senior marketing manager with Shell Oil Co., manages his own facilities maintenance business.
