Free Tax Assistance Available through April 14 at SUNY Canton

CANTON, NY (02/04/2015)(readMedia)-- Students and faculty members from the SUNY Canton Accounting program will be helping individuals and families file their taxes.

For the 10th year, the college will be participating in the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Students volunteer to increase their tax preparation skills and to help teach individuals how to correctly prepare their own taxes. The service is offered free-of-charge to SUNY Canton students and the community. There is a qualifying income bracket to participate in the program.

Required items include Social Security cards, photo identification, all W-2 forms and any other income documents, unemployment compensation (Form 1099G), interest or dividend income (form 1099INT and 1099DIV), and last year's New York State and Federal Tax Returns.
