Friends of the Sanford Stud Farm to Hold June 21 Open House to Highlight Restoration of Fabled Breeding Farm

BALLSTON SPA, NY (06/16/2008)(readMedia)-- The Friends of the Sanford Stud Farm will host an Open House on Saturday, June 21 from 10:00 AM to 3 PM at the barns on Route 30N (across from Amsterdam Memorial Hospital). The event will feature guided tours of the Broodmare and Jumping Horse Barns, all that remain of the historic thoroughbred breeding facility, as well as a cook-out manned by the Hagaman Fire Department, a car show, assorted vendor booths and a live remote by WCSS radio.

The special guest of honor at the event will be L.F. Hildebrandt, Sr. who rode many of Sanford's winning horses, and who has written a book about his experiences working with the Sanford family.

The Friends group will also be selling raffle tickets for an original oil painting of the farm done by noted local artist Grace Gilbert and a quilt donated by Sew and Sew's Quilters. Original design Friends of Sanford Stud Farm tee shirts will be available for sale.

The Friends of Sanford Stud Farm is a not-for-profit group that hopes to raise awareness and funds through this event, and others in the future to restore the Barns and make them into a Heritage Center that will feature displays and exhibits about the farm, horse racing at the time, and educational displays about the Sanford family's numerous contributions to the Mohawk Valley area and the sport of horse racing.
