Fulton resident Elizabeth Canfield honored with Chancellor's Award

OSWEGO, NY (04/24/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Oswego senior music major Elizabeth Canfield of Fulton is the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the highest student recognition through the statewide university system.
The pianist co-founded, with identical twin sister and co-honoree Evangeline, the Rubenstein Society for piano enthusiasts at SUNY Oswego. She has performed for numerous audiences on campus, including the Middle States showcase, Quest honors recitals and her own senior recital.
The Fulton resident's community work has included promoting concert attendance in her hometown, working with children at an Adirondack camp and, with mentor Robert Auler of the music faculty, co-hosting a piano clinic in Pulaski. She was selected for a summer study program at University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. With the College-Community Orchestra, she and her sister performed Mozart's "Double Piano Concerto."
For the future, she plans to attend graduate school with her twin for a master of music degree in piano performance, and the pair eventually hopes to become a professional piano duo.
Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News named it among the "Top 20 Public Regional Universities in the North" for 2013, and the Princeton Review includes Oswego in its 2013 college guidebook "The Best Northeastern Colleges" and named the college to its 2013 list of "Best Value Colleges."
A 152-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls about 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.
