GCC Men's Lacrosse Announces 2016 Captains and Schedule

BATAVIA, NY (02/04/2016)(readMedia)-- The Genesee Community College men's lacrosse coaching staff recently announced team captains and the 2016 schedule for the upcoming season. Awarded the honor of leading the Cougars this spring are sophomores Jacob Bomberry, Alex Henry, Reed Hnidy and Jake Wittmeyer.

Bomberry returns as captain in 2016. He played in all 16 games last year at attack and was selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All American Second Team, All-Region III First Team and was the Western New York Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Year. Bomberry led the team with 41 goals and 37 assists, totaling 78 points. He played on the Six Nation Rebels Jr. B OLA Championship teams in 2011, 12, 13, and 14. He is the Rebels' all-time leading scorer and was the captain of the 2014 team. Jacob was also a member of the U19 Iroquois National Team that played in Turku, Finland.

Henry, an LSM, played in all 16 games last year for the Cougars. He was selected to the All-Region III Second Team and scored eight goals and added three assists. Henry collected 47 ground balls and caused 39 turnovers. Alex played for the Six Nation Rebels Jr. B OLA Championship teams in 2013 and 2014 and was the captain of the 2015 team.

Hnidy, a returning captain, played in all 16 games last year on defense. He was selected to NJCAA All-American Second Team and the All-Region III First Team. Hnidy led the team with 62 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers in 2015.

Wittmeyer started all 16 games in 2015, collecting 22 ground balls and causing 15 turnovers. He was named All-Region III Honorable Mention in 2015.

Genesee's upcoming schedule is highlighted with games against Anne Arundel CC (Mar. 10), CCBC- Essex (Mar. 12), Nassau CC (Apr. 9), and defending National Champion Onondaga CC (Mar. 26). The Cougars will open their spring schedule on the road at Tompkins-Cortland CC on Mar. 5.
