BATAVIA, NY (06/30/2017) Regional artist Karen Flack, who is also a longtime adjunct art instructor at Genesee Community College, is making the most of her summer by participating in the Perry Chalk Art Festival as the event's featured artist on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. She is also displaying her work as part of a solo exhibit at the Arts Council for Wyoming County Member's Gallery throughout the month of July.

Ms. Flack, a member of the College's adjunct faculty for the past nine years, will work her creative magic at the Perry festival which is themed "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow." She returns for a sixth straight year after her work was recognized as the juried winner of the 2016 festival. The day will include trained artists who will create pastel masterpieces out of square sidewalk blocks, surrounded by live music, shopping and fine dining at the Taste of Summer. The artists, working solo or as a team, could potentially chalk their way to a first place prize of $400, or $150 for second place and $50 for third. Judges consist of a qualified team using specific criteria.

On display next month will be one of Ms. Flack's collaborative works, a piece that was created with the help of "Daisy," a Burmese python from the Seneca Park Zoo. Ms. Flack repurposed an interesting canvas painting she found at Goodwill that included a dynamic texture and pattern made by Daisy. She re-invented the painting by adding her own style to the imprint of the now deceased snake.

Karen teaches art courses at GCC and has experience teaching to students of all ages. She has worked on projects in art restoration and her work includes architectural conservation at the Senator's Mansion in Churchville, and The First Universalist Church in Rochester, and privately owned works by artists such as Andy Warhol and Ramon Santiago. She also volunteered to create the new design for the commemorative buttons for the Second Annual Orleans County Heritage Festival.
