GCC and St. John Fisher College Share Pharmacy Dual Admissions Partnership

Summer START Days Help Streamline the Admission Process

BATAVIA, NY (06/28/2017) A new collaborative, dual enrollment program between Genesee Community College and St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, now provides two qualified GCC students each year with the opportunity to transfer into the highly regarded Wegmans School of Pharmacy. The partnership and program offers these students a direct path to earn a doctoral degree from the two highly-regarded institutions and in one of the fastest-growing and most rewarding career choices in healthcare.

"We are continuing to build strong bonds with area colleges that provide wonderful opportunities for our students to succeed," Dr. James Sunser, GCC President said of the partnership. "This relationship exemplifies Genesee's mission of seeking new avenues that help our students achieve their dreams."

GCC students enrolled in any of the Natural Sciences concentrations would be eligible to apply to the pharmaceutical program. These include biology, chemistry, environmental biology and physics. With the fall semester beginning on August 21, 2017, now is the time to explore this opportunity given the limit of just two seats.

The Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher opened in 2006 and is one of only five of its kind in New York State. After an inaugural class of 55 students, nine faculty and two staff members, the School has grown to over 300 students and over 40 faculty and staff. The Pharm.D. program prepares students to practice in any professional setting by providing a strong foundation in the sciences, clinical skills and administration. The curriculum is designed to integrate information that builds upon one another, and encompasses both didactic and experiential learning.

Interested students need to apply through GCC's Transfer Services Center and complete the pre-requisite courses as well as meet agreed upon guidelines. For further information, contact GCC transfer coordinator Kristen Hargrave at transfer@genesee.edu or call (585) 343-0055 ext. 6230.

GCC's new Student Success Center has introduced "START" (Student Testing Advisement Registration Tuition) Days for new students to complete all their required enrollment processes in one day. Students can meet with one of the College's new success coaches, who offer assistance every step of the way-right through graduation. (Anyone in need of assistance in filing for FAFSA should bring their 2015 tax information.)

START Days are scheduled every Monday and Wednesday through July 31, 2017 from 1 - 4 p.m. at all GCC campus locations. To schedule an appointment, call the Student Success Center at (585) 345-6805 or the campus location nearest to you or visit the Success Center's newly launched webpage at http://www.genesee.edu/ssc.
