Gaithersburg's Dr. Martin Carrion Named Assistant Professor of Spanish and Humanities at USciences

PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/01/2013)(readMedia)-- Martin Carrion, PhD, has been named assistant professor of Spanish and humanities at University of the Sciences.

Dr. Carrion's research focuses on Latino studies, interdisciplinary readings of Andean and Mexican colonial tests, cultural productions, and transatlantic and post-colonial studies. He is currently working on a book-length project about the Andean knowledge and arts renaissance that occurred in Cuzco, Peru, after the Spanish conquest.

Dr. Carrion earned his PhD at The John Hopkins University where he also received his master of public policy and his certificate in non-profit management from the Institute for Policy Studies, as well as his BA in international relations and economics. He has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarship and the John Carter Brown Fellowship. He was also nominated for the 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award at the University of Idaho.

Born in La Paz, Bolivia, and raised in Gaithersburg, Md., Dr. Carrion currently resides in Philadelphia.
