Genesee Community College Men's Lacrosse Lands Eight on All-Conference List

BATAVIA, NY (05/19/2014)(readMedia)-- Eight members of the 2014 Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team were recently named to the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) All-Conference team. Sophomore goalkeeper Craig Seneca (Cattaraugus Territory) and sophomore midfielders Dave Ellsworth (Macedon, NY), Doug Ellsworth (Macedon, NY) and Tyler Skowronski (Clarence, NY) were first team selections and freshman attack Dana Ray (Allegany Territory), freshman defender Jesse Jimerson (Six Nations, ON), sophomore midfielder Pete DiLaura (Chili, NY) and sophomore defender Johnny Astrologo (Mahopac, NY) were second team selections.

Seneca had the third highest save percentage in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this season at 64.3 percent. He made 184 total saves and held the sixth lowest goals against average in the country at 8.81.

Dave Ellsworth totaled 15 points as a two-way midfielder for GCC. He scored nine goals, added six assists and collected 31 ground balls. He made nine starts this spring and appeared in all 15 games for the Cougars.

Doug Ellsworth scored nine goals and tallied six assists to total 15 points. He had 11 takeaways and collected 31 ground balls. He appeared in all 15 games this season, making four starts.

Skowronski scored 20 goals and had 17 assists, totaling 37 points. He caused 10 turnovers and collected 31 ground balls, appearing in every game.

Ray tied for the team lead in goals (32), assists (24) and total points (56) during his freshman season. He made 13 starts and scored a team-high six goals with the man-advantage this spring.

Jimmerson totaled 49 ground balls, the third highest mark on the team. He had 38 takeaways and tallied two points offensively, scoring a goal and adding an assist.

DiLaura led the team in ground balls with 90, the sixth highest total in the country this year. He scored five goals, added five assists and led the team in takeaways with 60.

Astrologo was the only Cougar to start in all 15 games this spring. He was second on the team in ground balls (59) and takeaways (53).

Genesee finished the 2014 season ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA National Poll. The Cougars reached the Region III semifinals for the fourth consecutive year and had its three year run of national tournament appearances snapped after just missing out on an at-large bid.
