Gibson Earns National Team of the Week Honors

Trine University's Jamon Gibson was selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week, the organization announced Oct. 10.

The senior from Toldeo, Ohio, was named as one of the two defensive ends for the team. It was the second time this season that a member of the Thunder received the award, joining teammate Alex Price. The pair mark the first time since 2018 that two different athletes have received the award in the same season.

Gibson led the defensive effort the prior weekend as the Thunder secured a come from behind, 34-14 victory over Adrian College in the 2023 edition of the Border Brawl. He finished with team-high totals in tackles (8), tackles for a loss (4.5) and sacks (2.5). He also recorded a pair of quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

One of those quarterback hurries changed the momentum of the game. Down 14-0 with minutes left in the half, the defense forced a third and nine play for the Bulldogs. Gibson's hit on the quarterback ended the drive when the ball sailed high and ended in an interception. His forced fumble in the fourth quarter sealed the game, ending in a defensive touchdown for Trine.

Gibson also ended the day as the new career sack leader at Trine, with 21 sacks in three and a half seasons with the team.
