Giffin & Lawrence Earn ECAC Accolades for First Time in Program History

CANTON, NY (03/19/2014)(readMedia)-- Centerville, MA – Braden Giffin (Lake Worth, FL) and Zach Lawrence (West Palm Beach, FL) of the SUNY Canton baseball team have been named Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Co-Player and Pitcher of the Week for the first time in program history, as announced by the conference on Tuesday evening.

Giffin earned ECAC Co-Player of the Week honors in the Upstate division after having a tremendous week leading the Roos to a 6-3 record on their Florida Spring Training trip. The sophomore went 15-for-33 from the plate finishing with a team-high 13 RBIs to go with seven runs scored. He laced three doubles and a home run. The Lake Worth, FL native was equally effective in the field recording 33 put outs and a .956 fielding percentage.

Lawrence was distinguished as an ECAC Co-Pitcher of the Week in the Upstate division after a tremendous week going 2-0 on the mound pitching 15 innings without giving up an earned run. He finished the week with a perfect 0.00 earned-run average striking out 10 batters. In his first game of the week the freshman threw a complete game shutout throwing eight innings of scoreless ball in a 1-0 SUNY Canton win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. He followed that up with seven innings of five-hit ball against SUNY Oneonta where the only run surrendered was unearned in a 12-1 victory.

Corvias ECAC Players of the Week

The baseball team is back in action Friday and Saturday with three games against Penn State Abington on the road.
